Communication method and apparatus

Abstract

The method is performed by a terminal device or a chip used in a terminal device. The method includes: receiving first system information from a network device, where the first system information includes a first condition, the first condition is used by the terminal device to determine whether to receive and/or read second system information, and the second system information includes ephemeris information configured by the network device; determining whether the first condition is met; and receiving and/or reading the second system information when the first condition is met. In embodiments of this application, the terminal device may receive and/or read the second system information only when the first condition is met, that is, receive and/or read the ephemeris information only when the first condition is met, thereby reducing ineffective reading of the ephemeris information, and reducing measurement power consumption of the terminal device.
