System and Method for Mounting a Solar Panel Onto a Substantially Flat Mounting Surface

A system for mounting at least two solar panels to a mounting surface, the system comprising:

• at least two base elements configured to be positioned upon the mounting surface, the at least two base elements being connected to one another via a hinge, the at least two base elements comprising a first base element and a second base element,
• wherein the first base element comprises at least one first support structure configured for supporting at least part of the at least two solar panels,
• wherein the second base element comprises at least one second support structure configured for supporting at least part of the at least two solar panels,
• wherein the at least one first support structure is configured to retain at least a part of a first edge of a first solar panel in a first direction and a part of a first edge of a second solar panel in a second direction different than the first direction,
• wherein the at least one second support structure is configured to retain at least a part of a first edge of a third solar panel in a first direction and a part of a first edge of a fourth solar panel in a second direction different than the first direction,
• wherein the first base element comprises a first clamping element configured to engage at least part of a second edge of the first solar panel and a second clamping element configured for engaging at least part of a second edge of the second solar panel,
• wherein the second base element comprises a third clamping element configured for engaging at least part of a second edge of the third solar panel and a fourth clamping element configured for engaging at least part of a second edge of the fourth solar panel, and
• wherein the first clamping element and the second clamping element are displaceable along the first base element and the third clamping element and fourth clamping element are displaceable along the second base element.
