Abstract
Batteries having different form factors and power tools that are capable of using such batteries are described. In some embodiments, a power tool may use batteries having a post form factor as well as batteries having a slide form factor.

A power tool system comprising:
- a power tool comprising a tool interface portion;
- a first battery pack having a first form factor comprising a post-type interface;
- a second battery pack having a second form factor different from the first form factor and comprising a slide-type interface;
- and
- an adapter configured to be selectively coupled to the tool interface portion, wherein:
- the adapter comprises a first interface configured to mechanically and electrically couple to the first battery pack, and a second interface configured to mechanically and electrically couple to the second battery pack, and
- the adapter is configured to provide electrical power from either the first battery pack or the second battery pack to the power tool through a common electrical interface of the tool interface portion.

A method of operating a power tool system, comprising:
- providing a power tool having a tool interface portion;
- selectively coupling an adapter to the tool interface portion;
- selectively coupling one of a first battery pack having a post-type interface or a second battery pack having a slide-type interface to the adapter;
- and
- providing electrical power from the selected one of the first battery pack or the second battery pack to the power tool through a common electrical interface of the tool interface portion via the adapter.
