A secondary battery is provided and includes a partition, an outer package member, a positive electrode aqueous electrolytic solution, a negative electrode aqueous electrolytic solution, a positive electrode, and a negative electrode. The partition allows an alkali metal ion to pass therethrough. The outer package member has a positive electrode space and a negative electrode space inside the outer package member. The positive electrode space and the negative electrode space are separated from each other with the partition interposed therebetween. The positive electrode aqueous electrolytic solution is contained in the positive electrode space. The negative electrode aqueous electrolytic solution is contained in the negative electrode space. The positive electrode is immersed in the positive electrode aqueous electrolytic solution and which the alkali metal ion is to be inserted into and extracted from. The negative electrode is immersed in the negative electrode aqueous electrolytic solution and which the alkali metal ion is to be inserted into and extracted from. The partition includes an outer edge part and a body part. The outer edge part is adjacent to the outer package member. The body part is positioned on an inner side relative to the outer edge part. The body part includes a cation exchange membrane. All or a part of the outer edge part includes a first polymer compound. The first polymer compound includes at least one of a hydroxyl group, a primary amino group, a secondary amino group, a primary amide group, a secondary amide group, or a carboxyl group.
