Method of manufacturing secondary battery

A method of manufacturing a secondary battery, the method comprising:

• preparing an exterior container having a prismatic shape and provided with a first opening;
• preparing an electrode assembly including a positive electrode and a negative electrode stacked in a first direction, the electrode assembly having a main body portion having a substantially rectangular shape including a long side and a short side when viewed in the first direction;
• and
• inserting a portion of the electrode assembly into the exterior container through the first opening along a direction of the long side while grasping the electrode assembly, wherein
• in the inserting the portion of the electrode assembly into the exterior container, control of a position or direction of the electrode assembly based on a magnitude of reaction to the electrode assembly is performed,
• the control of the position or direction of the electrode assembly is performed based on a magnitude of reaction of force along a direction of each of a first axis along the first direction, a second axis along the direction of the long side, and a third axis along the direction of the short side, and a magnitude of reaction of rotational moment around each of the first axis, the second axis, and the third axis,
• in the inserting the portion of the electrode assembly into the exterior container, the exterior container and the electrode assembly are disposed such that the direction of the long side is oriented in a vertical direction and the electrode assembly is inserted vertically downward, and
• the exterior container is provided with a second opening provided opposite to the first opening,
• the method further comprising:
• after the inserting the portion of the electrode assembly into the exterior container, inserting a remainder of the electrode assembly into the exterior container by disposing the exterior container and the electrode assembly such that the electrode assembly is inserted vertically downward, inserting a jig into the exterior container through the second opening, and moving the jig vertically downward while supporting the electrode assembly by the jig, wherein
• the long side has a first length, the short side has a second length, the first length is three times or more as large as the second length, and
• a length of the long side is 300 mm or more,
• the method further comprising providing a spacer having an insulating property at an end portion of the electrode assembly in the direction of the long side, wherein
• the electrode assembly is inserted into the exterior container together with the spacer,
• the method further comprising:
• providing a sheet member having an insulating property and covering at least a portion of the electrode assembly;
• and
• joining the sheet member and the spacer, wherein
• the electrode assembly is inserted into the exterior container together with the sheet member, and
• in the inserting the electrode assembly into the exterior container, a clearance between the sheet member and the exterior container is more than 0 and 0.6 mm or less,
• the method further comprising sealing the first opening by a sealing plate, wherein
• in the sealing the first opening, control of a position or direction of the sealing plate based on a magnitude of reaction to the sealing plate is performed, and
• in the sealing the first opening, a clearance between the sealing plate and the exterior container is more than 0 and 0.1 mm or less.
