The invention concerns a fast, accurate post-quantisation method of optimising an artificial neural networks (ANN), related systems, and computer program products. The method involves loading (S30) quantisation and neural parameters of the ANN, which include parameters that have been learned and quantised based on quantisation operations involving the quantisation parameters. It optimizes the ANN by: accessing (S31) labelled examples and executing (S33) the ANN on such examples; optimising (S34) the quantisation parameters; and accordingly updating (S35) the neural parameters. During the optimisation, the ANN is first executed (S33) on the labelled examples, based on current neural parameters to obtain inference results. Next, the quantisation parameters are optimised (S34) against an objective function computed according to the inference results and labels of the examples, keeping at least some of the current neural parameters fixed. Finally, the neural parameters are updated (S35) thanks to the quantisation operations, using the optimised quantisation parameters.
