Industrial plant monitoring

A computer-implemented method for contextualizing asset data in an industrial plant computing architecture, the method comprising:

• (a) receiving, at a second processing layer of an industrial plant, asset data originating from an industrial asset of the industrial plant via a first processing layer associated with the industrial plant;
• (b) generating, by the second processing layer, contextualized asset data by associating the asset data with plant context information indicative of at least one plant characteristic and/or at least one plant operating constraint;
• (c) further generating, by the second processing layer, the contextualized asset data by associating the asset data with structure context representing at least one relationship among assets of the industrial plant, the structure context being derived from an electronic plant representation stored in memory;
• and
• (d) providing the contextualized asset data to a processing system external to the industrial plant.

An industrial plant system comprising:

• (a) a first processing layer configured to be communicatively coupled to at least one industrial asset of an industrial plant;
• (b) a second processing layer communicatively coupled to the first processing layer;
• and
• (c) at least one processor and at least one non-transitory memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the industrial plant system to:
• (i) receive, at the second processing layer, asset data originating from the industrial asset via the first processing layer;
• (ii) generate contextualized asset data by associating the asset data with plant context information indicative of at least one plant characteristic and/or at least one plant operating constraint;
• (iii) further generate the contextualized asset data by associating the asset data with structure context representing at least one relationship among assets of the industrial plant, the structure context being derived from an electronic plant representation stored in memory;
• and
• (iv) provide the contextualized asset data to a processing system external to the industrial plant.
