Cooktop with hinged burner grates

A cooking appliance, comprising:

• a body;
• a cooktop base surface coupled to the body;
• first and second supports coupled to the cooktop base surface proximate to an edge of the cooktop base surface;
• and
• a grate assembly rotatably coupled to the first and second supports to rotate between a first position and a second position, the grate assembly including:
• a grate having at least one receiving member at an edge thereof;
• a pivot assembly disposed at least partially within the at least one receiving member, wherein the pivot assembly includes a biasing member disposed between first and second housings, and wherein the first housing is coupled to the first support, and further wherein the biasing member is configured to bias the grate to the first position and compress in response to the grate being in the second position.

A cooking appliance, comprising:

• a body;
• a cooktop base surface coupled to the body;
• first and second supports coupled to a rear edge of the cooktop base surface;
• first and second pivot assemblies coupled to the first and second supports respectively, wherein each of the first and second pivot assemblies includes a biasing member;
• and
• a grate having first and second receiving assemblies at a rear end thereof, wherein the first and second pivot assemblies are disposed at least partially in the first and second receiving members, respectively, to exert an upward biasing force on the grate.
