Methods and systems for connecting pipes

A method for connecting a first pipe and a second pipe to form a pipeline, the method comprising:

• disposing a first flange on a first connection end of the first pipe and a second flange on a second connection end of the second pipe;
• aligning axially the first pipe and the second pipe so that the first connection end and the second connection end are adjacent, wherein each pipe comprises an inner liner;
• disposing a first plurality of wedges on the first connection end of the first pipe,
• wherein the first plurality of wedges is disposed circumferentially around the first connection end;
• disposing a second plurality of wedges on the second connection end of the second pipe,
• wherein the second plurality of wedges is disposed circumferentially around the second connection end;
• disposing, at least partially, a coupler inside the first connection end and the second connection end,
• wherein the coupler comprises an electrical connector and an embedded coil, wherein the embedded coil is wrapped circumferentially around the coupler and is configured to emit heat when a first current is applied;
• translating the first pipe and the second pipe toward a spacer disposed on the coupler at a spacer location so that each pipe is adjacent to the spacer,
• wherein the spacer comprises a welding port and a cavity, wherein the cavity is configured to receive the electrical connector;
• translating, at least partially, the first flange and the second flange towards each other so as to compress the first plurality of wedges against the first connection end by the first flange and the second plurality of wedges against the second connection end by the second flange;
• inserting an electrode into the welding port so that the electrode is electrically coupled to the electrical connector;
• applying, using a power supply, a first current to the embedded coil via the electrical connector bonding the coupler to the inner liner of each of the first pipe and the second pipe yielding a connection joint;
• removing the electrode from the welding port;
• and
• securing, using a securing system, the connection joint by further translating the first flange and the second flange to a pre-determined tolerance of compression.
