An offloader and a number of techniques and systems that use the offloader for transporting cargo both to and from a lander on a surface of a moon or planet are presented. The offloader may be configured to work while docked with a terrain vehicle, such as a lunar terrain vehicle (STV). The offloader includes an extendable boom configured to reach the cargo on the lander. The extendable boom may include a magnetic end-effector to attach to a latching interface at a lift point on the cargo. The magnetic end-effector may allow for an initial soft-dock to a payload. Once magnetically coupled, a clamp may be actuated to establish a hard capture of the cargo for offloading.
