Abstract
A slide apparatus mountable on a mold member may include a main body having a drive cylinder and a carrier cylinder. A drive piston is disposed in sealed sliding relation in the drive cylinder. A carrier piston is disposed in sealed sliding relation in the carrier cylinder. An insert carrier is secured to the carrier piston. The insert carrier is movable in response to movement of the carrier piston to cause an insert member, releasably securable to the insert carrier, to protrude into an internal cavitation of the mold member.
Claims14
A slide apparatus for injection molding, comprising:
- a main body having a drive cylinder defining a drive-cylinder axis and a carrier cylinder defining a carrier-cylinder axis;
- a drive piston disposed in sealed sliding relation in the drive cylinder, wherein the drive piston is adapted to move along the drive-cylinder axis between a start position and a fluid displacement position in response to engagement between an actuator receiving surface and an actuator associated with an adjacent mold member;
- a carrier piston disposed in sealed sliding relation in the carrier cylinder, wherein the carrier piston is adapted to move along the carrier-cylinder axis between a retracted position and an extended position;
- an insert carrier secured to the carrier piston, wherein the insert carrier is movable in response to movement of the carrier piston from the retracted position to the extended position to cause an insert member, releasably securable to the insert carrier, to protrude into an internal cavitation of the mold member;
- and
- a fluid communication passage interconnecting the drive cylinder and the carrier cylinder, wherein the fluid communication passage is adapted to receive hydraulic fluid for establishing hydraulic actuation between the drive piston and the carrier piston;
- wherein movement of the drive piston from the start position to the fluid displacement position causes the carrier piston to move from the retracted position to the extended position, but movement of the carrier piston from the extended position to the retracted position causes the drive piston to move from the fluid displacement position to the start position.
