The invention is an apparatus for human brain neuroprotection during surgery. The inventive apparatus includes use of a heart-lung machine to generate periodic rectangular pulsation of blood flow and a non-invasive CA monitor to continuously record transient functions, such as dynamic autoregulation functions, of a human brain cerebrovascular autoregulation system. It also includes a processor to process data to identify the start of a CA impairment event. The device also generates an alarm to indicate CA impairment and the heart-lung machine is adjusted to minimize the time of the CA impairment event in real time.
