Wind guard lift for grass pickup header

A pickup assembly for an agricultural harvester, the pickup assembly comprising:

• a pickup assembly frame;
• a pickup unit carried by the pickup assembly frame and configured to pick up crop from a field;
• a wind guard assembly comprising a wind guard frame, pivotably coupled to the pickup assembly frame at a wind guard pivot axle;
• and
• a wind guard height control mechanism comprising:
• (i) a control arm pivotably coupled to the pickup assembly frame for pivoting coaxially with the wind guard frame,
• (ii) a height control flange on the wind guard frame, configured to be in contact with the control arm, and
• (iii) a linear actuator having a first end connected to the pickup assembly frame and a second end connected to the control arm.

A method for controlling a height of a wind guard assembly of a pickup assembly of an agricultural harvester, the method comprising the steps of:

• operating the pickup assembly with the wind guard assembly set to a first minimum height setting,
• halting operation of the pickup assembly,
• extending a linear actuator for raising the wind guard assembly to a lifted configuration,
• retracting the linear actuator for returning the wind guard assembly to the first minimum height setting, and
• resuming operation of the pickup assembly.
