Multi-protocol backup proxy with ddboost backend

A system for protecting data in a backup system, comprising:

• an application host generating data from an application to be transmitted through the backup system to a storage;
• a generic proxy component functionally coupled to the application host and executing the protocol in a protocol-specific server to transform the data into a format compatible with a DDBoost client residing in the generic proxy component;
• and
• the DDBoost client invoking remote procedure calls (RPCs) to output the transformed data through a data transmission protocol to the backup system over a network.

A computer program product, comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium having a computer-readable program code embodied therein, the computer-readable program code adapted to be executed by one or more processors to implement a method of protecting data in backup system comprising:

• generating data from an application hosted by an application host through a defined data transfer protocol;
• executing the protocol in a protocol-specific server in a generic proxy component functionally coupled to the application host to transform the data into a format compatible DDBoost client residing in the generic proxy component;
• and
• invoking remote procedure calls (RPCs) in the DDBoost client to output the transformed data through a data transmission protocol to the backup system over a network.
