The invention relates to a device comprising a first photonic waveguide (101) providing light to a plasmonic slot waveguide constituted of two metal electrodes (104, 105) serving as a plasmonic Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) sensor, a second photonic waveguide (109) that collects light from a MZI-based plasmonic sensor. It further comprises an overall chip (110), optical coupling structures (102, 107) at both ends of the sensor acting as the optical I/Os; and an optical splitter (103) and an optical combiner (108) for optical splitting at a first junction (103) of the plasmonic slot MZI and optical combining at a second junction (108) of the plasmonic slot MZI. It further comprises a DC voltage or current source (106) connected between the first electrode (104) and the second electrode (105) that constitute the plasmonic slot MZI. The invention relates also to an apparatus comprising an array of such devices.
A photonic sensor device comprising at least one optical interferometric sensor, wherein a plasmonic slot waveguide is incorporated as a transducer element planar integrated on photonic waveguides, wherein the device comprises:
