A switchable stack comprising first and second transparent dielectric substrates respectively having first and second transparent electrode layer and first and second alignment layers respectively over the first and second electrode layers, and, located between the first and second alignment layers, an electroactive layer of an electroactive material comprising nematic liquid crystals (LC), with a dielectric anisotropy Δε and ions, in which the switchable glass is in a transparent state without applied voltage, and when an alternating voltage is applied to the switchable stack, the switchable stack being a scattering state,
- in which:
- said nematic LC having Δε which is lower than −3,
- said nematic LC being at least 99% in weight of said electroactive material,
- said ions concentration being larger than 0.02% and lower than 1% in weight of a sum of weights of said nematic LC and ions.
