Detector for detecting radiation

A detector for detecting radiation, comprising a plurality of rows of detector crystal layers for sequentially detecting a same radiation signal and combining portions of the radiation signal detected by each of the plurality of rows of detector crystal layers to analyze a characteristic of the radiation signal,

• wherein the plurality of rows of detector crystal layers comprise at least a first row of detector crystal layers and a second row of detector crystal layers, and the at least first row of detector crystal layers and second row of detector crystal layers comprise a first crystal layer and a second crystal layer, and
• layer thicknesses of the first row of detector crystal layers and the second row of detector crystal layers are set such that a total layer thickness of one of the first crystal layer and the second crystal layer capable of detecting radiation in a wave band of interest is greater than a total layer thickness of the other of the first crystal layer and the second crystal layer.
