A gripping tool

Abstract

A gripping tool including: an elongate body having a first end, a second end, a longitudinal body axis, and a handle located at the second end of the elongate body, wherein the handle has a longitudinal handle axis which is substantially coaxial with at least a portion of the longitudinal body axis; a gripping mechanism located at the first end of the elongate body; a ratchet mechanism configured to restrict the gripping mechanism moving from a closed position to an open position, wherein the ratchet mechanism includes a pawl member configured to cooperate with a ratchet member, wherein the ratchet member is movable relative to the elongate body along the longitudinal body axis; a trigger mechanism operably coupled to the gripping mechanism, including: a trigger pivotally coupled to the elongate body and operably coupled to the ratchet member; and a force transfer medium operably coupled between the ratchet member and the gripping mechanism; wherein actuation of the trigger causes the ratchet member to move causing the force transfer medium to actuate the gripping mechanism to move from an open position to a closed position.
