A beverage preparation device, in particular a coffee and/or espresso machine, having a beverage substrate holder, in particular a sieve holder, removable from a receptacle, the device having a brewing unit which is displaceable in a vertical direction and is disposed and configured such with respect to the receptacle and the beverage substrate holder received therein that the beverage substrate holder is removable from and insertable in the receptacle in an upper position of the brewing unit and a brewing space formed by the brewing unit and the beverage substrate holder is closed and/or sealed in a first lower position and a vertical contacting against a beverage substrate in the beverage substrate holder takes place in a second lower position, the brewing unit being connected to a brewing water supply in such a manner as to conduct fluid in order to discharge brewing fluid and/or to supply it to the brewing chamber, and the beverage preparation device moreover having a supply duct for providing beverage substrate, the supply duct being disposed and designed such on one end that the beverage substrate can be filled from the supply duct in the beverage substrate holder , which is inserted in the receptacle, merely under the influence of weight and preferably on the other end forms a transition to a mill surrounded by the beverage preparation device, the displaceable brewing unit being configured to interact with a mechanical, in particular manually operable, actuating unit in order to be displaced at least into the upper, first lower and second lower position,
