Orthogonal Multiple Access and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access

An apparatus, comprising:

• transmitter circuitry configured to transmit a User Equipment (UE) capabilities report to a base transceiver station (BTS), the capabilities report indicating the UE's frequency domain spectral shaping (FDSS) capability for Discrete Fourier Transform spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM) signaling;
• receiver circuitry configured to receive a grant of uplink resources, the grant of uplink resources being transmitted by the BTS to the UE;
• wherein the grant of uplink resources is based on the UE's FDSS capability;
• and
• wherein the uplink resources correspond to an FDSS configuration for the DFT-s-OFDM signaling;
• and
• baseband processing circuitry configured to generate an FDSS-enabled DFT-spread-OFDM signal;
• the transmitter circuitry configured to transmit the FDSS-enabled DFT-spread-OFDM signal using the uplink resources.

An apparatus, comprising:

• a control-signal processor configured to transmit a User Equipment (UE) capabilities report to a base transceiver station (BTS), the capabilities report indicating the UE's frequency domain spectral shaping (FDSS) capability for Discrete Fourier Transform spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM) signaling;
• the control-signal processor further configured to receive a grant of uplink resources, the grant of uplink resources being transmitted by the BTS to the UE;
• wherein the grant of uplink resources is based on the UE's FDSS capability;
• and
• wherein the uplink resources correspond to an FDSS configuration for the DFT-s-OFDM signaling;
• and
• a baseband signal processor configured to generate an FDSS-enabled DFT-spread-OFDM signal;
• and
• a transmitter configured to transmit the FDSS-enabled DFT-spread-OFDM signal using the uplink resources.
