Abstract
Aspects of an electronic illuminator for medical infusion lines is disclosed. The electronic illuminator comprising a rigid-flex printed circuit board and a light emitting diode and a lens directing light to a side scattering fiber optic cable. A power source supplies power to the circuit board and LED. An ambient light sensor on a flexible portion of the circuit board detects environmental light through a translucent ring. A microcontroller unit connected to the ambient light sensor adjusts the LED intensity based on detected ambient light, providing adaptive illumination for medical infusion lines.
Claims20
An electronic illuminator for illuminating medical infusion lines, comprising:
- a rigid-flex printed circuit board (“RF-PCB”);
- a light emitting diode (“LED”) configured to the RF-PCB;
- a lens optically aligned with the LED to direct light to a side scattering fiber optic cable;
- a power source configured to supply power to the RF-PCB and LED;
- an ambient light sensor located on a flexible portion of the RF-PCB, configured to detect environmental light through a translucent ring;
- and
- a microcontroller unit (“MCU”) electrically connected to the ambient light sensor, the MCU configured to adjust LED intensity based on detected ambient light.
A method for illuminating medical infusion lines with an electronic illuminator, comprising:
- providing a rigid-flex printed circuit board (“RF-PCB”);
- connecting a light emitting diode (“LED”) to the RF-PCB;
- aligning a lens with the LED to direct light to a side scattering fiber optic cable;
- providing a power source configured to supply power to the RF-PCB and LED;
- configuring an ambient light sensor on a flexible portion of the RF-PCB to detect environmental light through a translucent ring;
- and
- configuring a microcontroller unit (“MCU”) to electrically connect to the ambient light sensor, the MCU configured to adjust LED intensity based on detected ambient light.
