Abstract
The disclosed technology relates to polymeric porous membrane prepared from a casting solution of the polymer in a solvent having a good environmental and toxicological profile.
Claims25
A method for manufacturing a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) polymer membrane comprising the steps of,
- a) dissolving PVC or CPVC polymer in solvent,
- b) casting the dissolved PVC or CPVC polymer onto a substrate, and
- c) precipitating the cast PVC or CPVC polymer in a non-solvent bath, wherein the solvent comprises an amide represented by the Formula I:
- where:
- X is O;
- R1, R2, R3, and R4 are independently H, or CnH(2n+1);
- Alk is a CnH2n alkylene group, linear or branched;
- and
- n is an integer from 1 to 10.
