Method of Monitoring the Status of a Wound

Abstract

A system is provided for determining a clinically relevant temperature differential between a predetermined area of interest on the body surface of a mammal and a control area on the body surface of the mammal. The system includes a visual and thermal image capturing device, a display apparatus for showing the captured visual image and the captured thermal image; and a computing apparatus. The computing apparatus is operatively connected to the image capturing device and to the display apparatus, and is configured to select a control area on the surface of the skin, determine a temperature of the control area, select an area of clinical interest within the visual image, calculate a temperature differential between the control area and the area of clinical interest, overlay the digital image onto the thermal image in a desired orientation on the display apparatus, and display the temperature differential in the thermal image.
