Document reading device, image forming apparatus, and image forming system

An image forming apparatus, comprising:

• a document stacker on which a document is placed;
• a conveyor to convey the document placed on the document stacker;
• a reader to read the document conveyed by the conveyor;
• an image forming device to form an image on a recording medium based on an image read by the reader;
• a document presser movable between a contact position at which the document presser contacts the document placed on the document stacker and a retracted position at which the document presser is retracted from the document;
• a detector to detect whether the document presser is present at one or both of the contact position and the retracted position;
• and
• circuitry configured to perform control based on a detection result of the document presser detected by the detector.

An image forming system, comprising:

• a document reading device including:
• a document stacker on which a document is placed;
• a conveyor to convey the document placed on the document stacker;
• a reader to read the document conveyed by the conveyor;
• a document presser movable between a contact position at which the document presser contacts the document placed on the document stacker and a retracted position at which the document presser is retracted from the document;
• a detector to detect whether the document presser is present at one or both of the contact position and the retracted position;
• and
• device circuitry;
• and
• a server including server circuitry configured to make a determination based on a detection result of the document presser detected by the detector,
• the device circuitry being configured to perform control based on information indicating the determination from the server circuitry.
