A method for cryogenic separation of air, in which an air separation plant having a rectification column arrangement which comprises a pressure column, a low-pressure column and a raw argon column is used. In the method, evaporation gas from a head gas condensation device associated with the raw argon column is partly or completely fed into the low-pressure column via a gas line. The gas line contains a first throttle valve which is adjusted by means of a control device so that argon is prevented from freezing out in the first head gas condensation arrangement. This creates, at least temporarily, a pressure drop of at least 50 mbar across the throttle valve. The present invention also relates to a corresponding air separation plant.
