A method comprising:
- treating DNA in a sample from a subject with a reagent that modifies DNA in a methylation-specific manner;
- amplifying the treated DNA using primers specific for one or more genes selected from FAIM2, ZNF671, CAPN2, OSR2, NTRK3, EMX1, PRKCB, RYR2, CD1D, PPP2R5C, FAM59B, HOXA1, CHST2, and TRH;
- and
- determining a methylation level of the one or more genes using at least one of polymerase chain reaction, nucleic acid sequencing, mass spectrometry, methylation-specific nuclease, mass-based separation, and/or target capture.

A method comprising:
- treating DNA in a sample from a subject with a reagent that modifies DNA in a methylation-specific manner;
- and
- determining a methylation level in the treated DNA of one or more genes, wherein the one or more genes are selected from FAIM2, ZNF671, CAPN2, OSR2, NTRK3, EMX1, PRKCB, RYR2, CD1D, PPP2R5C, FAM59B, HOXA1, CHST2, and TRH;
