Thickness, temperature and surface control of calender rollers and films, and methods thereof

A method of calendering an electrode film, comprising:

• rotating a calender roller comprising an electrode film disposed over the calender roller, wherein the electrode film comprises an electrode film thickness;
• measuring a first distance between a measurement device positioned over the calender roller and the electrode film and the calender roller during rotation of the calender roller;
• measuring a second distance between the measurement device and the electrode film during rotation of the calender roller;
• determining the electrode film thickness based at least in part on the first and second distances;
• and
• setting a thickness of at least a portion of the electrode film based at least in part on the determined film thickness.
