Abstract
A traveling service tool that is configured to removably attach to a fluid access port of a refrigerant system. The fluid access port can be the fluid access port described herein or an existing fluid access port. When used with the fluid access port described herein, the traveling service tool is configured to hold a core during processing. In an embodiment, the traveling service tool remains attached to and travels with the refrigerant system for the refrigerant system to be processed at two or more separate fluid processing stations.
Claims4
A fluid access port, comprising:
- a generally cylindrical valve body and a generally cylindrical valve core, the generally cylindrical valve body is a single piece, and the generally cylindrical valve core is a single piece;
- the generally cylindrical valve body has a first open end with a first opening and a second open end with a second opening, wherein the first opening and the second opening are coaxial to one another, an interior surface defining a passageway extending along a longitudinal axis from the first open end to the second open end, a valve seat within the generally cylindrical valve body through which the passageway extends, threads on a portion of the interior surface between the first open end and the second open end, and a circumferential detent groove on an exterior surface of the generally cylindrical valve body between the first open end and the second open end;
- the generally cylindrical valve core disposed within the passageway of the generally cylindrical valve body and movable relative to the generally cylindrical valve body in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis between an open position where the generally cylindrical valve core is not engaged with the valve seat allowing fluid flow through the service connection valve assembly and a closed position where the generally cylindrical valve core is in sealing engagement with the valve seat preventing fluid flow through the service connection valve assembly;
- the generally cylindrical valve core includes an exterior surface with threads that are engage with the threads on the portion of the interior surface when the generally cylindrical valve core is at the closed position, and the threads on the exterior surface of the generally cylindrical valve core are not engaged with the threads on the interior surface of the generally cylindrical valve body when the generally cylindrical valve core is at the open position;
- a retention mechanism on the generally cylindrical valve core that is positioned and configured to retain the generally cylindrical valve core within the generally cylindrical valve body when the generally cylindrical valve core is at the open position.
