Abstract
A cover for a corbel that may be incorporated into a precast concrete structure is provided having a shell with an interior and an exterior, triangular sides and a bottom extending between the two sides. The opening in the cover is defined by a perimeter, with a first section of the perimeter lying in a first plane and a second section of the perimeter lying in a second plane. The intersection of the first plane and the second plane forms a right angle. The first section of the perimeter may be attached to the base of the ledge component of the corbel, and the second section of the perimeter may be attached to the back plate of the ledge or the mount plate.
Claims20
A fire-resistant corbel system for use with a precast concrete structure, the system comprising:
- a corbel defining a ledge configured to support a beam, wherein the corbel defines a receiver opening;
- a cover defining an interior surface and an exterior surface, wherein the cover is configured to enclose an underside of the ledge when the cover is attached to the corbel, wherein the cover comprises a hole that aligns with the receiver opening to receive a fastener configured to secure the cover to the corbel.
A method of configuring a corbel, the method comprising:
- providing a precast concrete structure, the precast concrete structure including a corbel, wherein the corbel comprises a mount plate having a plurality of slots extending through the mount plate and a ledge extending from the mount plate, wherein a load bearing surface of the ledge is exposed from the precast concrete structure;
- aligning a cover at a prescribed location relative to the corbel;
- and
- with the cover aligned at the prescribed location, inserting a fastener through a hole in the cover and a receiver opening in the corbel to secure the cover to the corbel.
A corbel for use with a precast concrete structure, the corbel comprising:
- a mount plate with a plurality of slots extending through the mount plate;
- a ledge extending from the mount plate in a direction perpendicular to the mount plate, wherein the ledge defines a load bearing surface configured to support a beam;
- and
- a first receiver tab extending from the mount plate or the ledge, the first receiver tab defining a receiver opening configured to receive a first fastener to secure a cover to the corbel.
