Abstract
A catheter hub (12) provides enhanced strain relief for a catheter shaft (14). The hub includes a body (18) adapted for connecting to the catheter shaft. The body has a plurality of circumferentially spaced, elongated strain relief members (30) formed of a material at least as rigid as a material of the body, and which may be tapered in a longitudinal direction to provide variable rigidity. A method of manufacturing a catheter hub includes attaching the plurality of strain relief members to the hub body, such as by overmolding.
Claims21
A catheter hub for providing enhanced strain relief for a catheter shaft, comprising:
- a body adapted for connecting to the catheter shaft, the body including a plurality of circumferentially spaced, elongated strain relief members formed of a material at least as rigid as a material of the body.
A catheter hub for providing enhanced strain relief for a catheter shaft, comprising:
- a body adapted for connecting to the catheter shaft, the body including a plurality of circumferentially spaced, elongated strain relief members having a decreasing rigidity from a proximal end to a distal end.
An apparatus for performing a medical procedure, comprising:
- a catheter shaft;
- and
- a hub bonded to the catheter shaft, the hub including a plurality of circumferentially spaced, elongated strain relief members of variable rigidity for engaging the catheter shaft.
