Methods and systems for dynamic coronary roadmapping

A method for generating an image of an object of interest of a patient, the object of interest comprising part of the vasculature of the patient, the method comprising:

• performing first operations in a first phase followed by second operations in a second phase;
• wherein the first operations of the first phase include:
• a) acquiring or obtaining first three-dimensional (3D) image data of the object of interest, wherein the first 3D image data is acquired using a 3D angiographic imaging modality;
• b) generating a 3D anatomical model of the object of interest from the first 3D image data of a);
• c) acquiring or obtaining second image data of the object of interest with both an interventional device and contrast agent present in the second image data, wherein the second image data is acquired using an X-ray angiographic imaging modality;
• d) using the 3D anatomical model of (b) and the second image data of c) to generate a plurality of 3D roadmaps of the object of interest;
• e) determining, from the second image data of c), a plurality of reference locations of a tip of the interventional device, wherein each reference location corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of 3D roadmaps of d);
• and
• f) storing, in a memory, data representing the plurality of 3D roadmaps of d) and the corresponding plurality of reference locations of e);
• and
• wherein the second operations of the second phase include:
• g) acquiring or obtaining third image data of the object of interest with the interventional device present in the third image data and without contrast agent present in the third image data, wherein the third image data is acquired using an X-ray fluoroscopic imaging modality;
• h) selecting one 3D roadmap from the plurality of 3D roadmaps represented by the data of f);
• i) determining location of the tip of the interventional device in the third image data of g);
• j) applying a transformation function to the one 3D roadmap selected in h) to generate a resultant two-dimensional (2D) roadmap, wherein the transformation function is based on displacement between the reference location represented by the data of f) which corresponds to the one 3D roadmap selected in h) and the location of the tip of the interventional device determined in i);
• and
• k) overlaying a visual representation of the resultant 2D roadmap of j) on the third image data of g) for display.
