Methods and Devices for Impedance Multiplication

A method of operating an electric circuit, the method comprising:

• supplying a first current to a superconducting component having a first terminal, a second terminal, and a constriction region between the first terminal and the second terminal;
• supplying a second current to a non-superconducting component having a third terminal and a fourth terminal;
• generating heat at the non-superconducting component in response to the second current flowing between the third terminal and the fourth terminal;
• transferring the heat from the non-superconducting component to the superconducting component;
• and
• in response to transferring the heat, transitioning the superconducting component from a superconducting state to a non-superconducting state.

An electric circuit, comprising:

• a superconducting component having a first terminal and a second terminal;
• and
• a non-superconducting component having a third terminal and a fourth terminal, wherein:
• the non-superconducting component is thermally coupled to the superconducting component, and
• the non-superconducting component is configured such that exceeding a threshold current generates sufficient heat to transition the superconducting component from a superconducting state to a non-superconducting state.
