Process to recover in high purity form CO2 (7) after separating it from steam (100), the CO2 being released from the calcination of solids containing CaCO3, with said solids being preheated to a temperature between 650-800° C. and arranged in a thermally insulated vessel (1), wherein the process is characterized by the continuous repetition, at least twice, of a sequence of at least the following consecutive steps:
- i) a heating up step combusting a fuel (8) within the bed of solids to heat up the bed of solids containing CaCO3 to an average temperature of between 800-950° C.;
- and
- ii) a CO2 partial pressure swing step by feeding steam (100) to the bed of solids.
