Washing machine and method for controlling the same

A washing machine, comprising:

• a main body;
• a tub to be disposed inside the main body and configured to store water;
• a drum rotatable while disposed inside the tub and configured to receive laundry;
• a driving motor configured to rotate the drum;
• a water supply device configured to supply water to the tub;
• and
• a controller configured to perform an initial fabric material detection to obtain information of a fabric material of the laundry and determine the fabric material of the laundry based on the obtained information while performing a washing cycle,
• wherein the controller is further configured to:
• obtain first fabric material information about the laundry based on initiation of the washing cycle, the first fabric material information including a weight of the laundry received inside the drum in a dry state and driving data of the drum;
• obtain second fabric material information about the laundry based on completion of a washing operation included in the washing cycle and an occurrence of a specific event, the second fabric material information including at least one of the weight of the laundry in the dry state and the weight of the laundry in a wet state after the specific event occurs, the driving data of the drum, water level data of the water stored in the tub, or dryness data of the laundry;
• determine a fabric material category of the laundry to perform an operation subsequent to the washing operation included in the washing cycle based on at least one of the first fabric material information or the second fabric material information;
• and
• perform the operation subsequent to the washing operation based on the determined fabric material category,
• wherein the fabric material category is determined by selectively considering the first fabric material information or the second fabric material information.
