Transmission setting selection and auxiliary braking control system

A method comprising:

• receiving, by a controller, data regarding operation of an auxiliary brake system of a vehicle;
• determining, by the controller, an auxiliary brake fault condition based on the received data regarding operation of the auxiliary brake system;
• determining, by the controller, a vehicle speed that is greater than a requested vehicle speed;
• and
• controlling, by the controller, a transmission to downshift at least one setting relative to a current transmission setting.

A system comprising an automated driving system configured to enable autonomous operation of a vehicle, the system comprising:

• a controller including one or more processing circuits comprising one or more memory devices coupled to one or more processors, the one or more memory devices configured to store instructions thereon that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
• receive data regarding operation of an auxiliary brake system of the vehicle;
• determine an auxiliary brake fault condition based on the received data regarding operation of the auxiliary brake system;
• receive a requested vehicle speed from the automated driving system;
• determine a vehicle speed is greater than the requested vehicle speed;
• and
• control a transmission to downshift at least one setting relative to a current transmission setting.
