There is provided a device for holding hair in a bun. The device includes a hair stick which has a female segment formed on a top part of the hair pin and includes a band that is also connected to the top part of the hair stick. The band has a free untethered end that terminates in a male segment. There is also provided a method of holding hair in a bun using the device. The method includes forming a ponytail with hair, forming a bun with the hair stick or alternatively without the hair stick and then securing the bun with the hair stick. The method also includes the steps of encircling a base of the hair bun with an band and inserting the male segment end of the band into the female segment of the hair stick in order to secure the hair bun.
