Window Roller Shade and Dimming Pane

A motorized window roller shade control method, comprising:

• sensing a touch input at an inner pane of the window with a sensor;
• determining a location of the touch input via a controller based on input from the sensor;
• sending a first signal from the controller to a motor operatively coupled to the roller shade, wherein the first signal provides a command to raise or lower the roller shade;
• raising or lowering the shade by operating the motor based on the signal from the controller;
• monitoring a position of the roller shade, comprising:
• counting a number of axle rotations of the roller shade via an optical encoder;
• and
• calculating a position of a bottom edge of the roller shade based on the number of axle rotations and a reference position;
• and
• sending a second signal from the controller to the motor, wherein the second signal provides a command to stop the motor.
