Oximeter with Measurement Averaging

A method comprising:

• while an oximetry device is enclosed in a sheath, detecting contact of a first window of a sheath to a first tissue of a patient;
• making a first oximetry measurement of the first tissue;
• displaying a first lift message on a display of the oximetry device;
• detecting that the first window has moved out of contact with the first tissue;
• detecting contact of the first window of the sheath to a second tissue of the patient;
• making a second oximetry measurement of the second tissue;
• detecting that the first window is moved out of contact with the second tissue;
• and
• displaying an average of the first and second oximetry values on a display of the oximetry device.

A method comprising:

• providing a device comprising a display visible from an exterior of the device;
• operating the device via a battery;
• using the device, obtaining a plurality of oximetry measurements for a plurality of tissue locations;
• producing a plurality of oximetry values based on the plurality of oximetry measurements for the plurality of tissue locations;
• calculating an average of the oximetry values;
• and
• displaying on the display the average oximeter value.
