A user wearable monitoring device for improved personal security includes a band, a clasp configured for moving between an open position and a closed position, a removable chip coupled to the band, and a digital locking mechanism configured for monitoring detachment. A method of digitally locking the device includes receiving a signal from a user input device and rotating contact sensors into a locked position in response to the signal. A method of unlocking the device may include receiving a second signal from the user input device, or receiving input from the contact sensors, and rotating the contact sensors into an unlocked position.
