Fatty acid composition

A method for producing hydrocarbons from a renewable oil feedstock, comprising:

• subjecting the renewable oil feedstock to a pretreatment process to form a pretreated feedstock, wherein said pretreatment process includes mechanical filtration of the renewable oil feedstock and the renewable oil feedstock includes greater than 0 wt % phospholipids up to 3.5 wt % phospholipids, and wherein said pretreatment process removes impurities from the renewable oil feedstock that include the phospholipids as well as metals and solid;
• subjecting said pretreated feedstock to a hydrotreatment process;
• and
• obtaining hydrocarbons from said hydrotreatment process,
• wherein said renewable oil feedstock contains free fatty acids from 40 wt-% to 80 wt-% of a total renewable oil feedstock weight, and a remainder being predominantly triglycerides such that the mechanical filtration occurs without problems caused by liquid crystals and agglomerates,
• wherein said hydrotreatment process is a catalytic hydrodeoxygenation process using a metal catalyst.
