Abstract

A winch system for sailing vessels includes a winch and a transmission for actuating a drum of the winch. The transmission includes at least a first planetary gear including a first sun shaft, a first planet carrier and a first ring. The first planetary gear is switchable between two selectable transmission ratios, via which a rotation of the first sun shaft can be transferred to the drum as a function of the transmission ratio selected. The transmission includes a clutch which is configured to connect the first sun shaft to the first ring and a brake which is configured to connect the first ring to a casing of the transmission. The two transmission ratios are selectable as a function of the activation of the clutch or the brake and a resultant connection of the first ring to the first sun shaft or the casing, respectively.
