Abstract
The present application pertains to processes and systems for enhanced heat transfer. In some embodiments a process is described for removing a portion of a chemical from a heat transfer loop comprising a heat transfer fluid. The process may comprise adding a solvent to the heat transfer fluid in the heat transfer loop; removing at least a portion of the heat transfer fluid from the heat transfer loop; separating said removed heat transfer fluid into a permeate and a retentate using a membrane; and adding at least a portion of the permeate to the heat transfer fluid in the heat transfer loop.
Claims21
A system for managing a heat transfer fluid, the system comprising:
- a heat transfer loop configured to contain a heat transfer fluid comprising a liquid-liquid phase transition composition;
- a source configured to supply a reagent to the heat transfer loop, wherein said source is in fluid communication with the heat transfer loop, wherein the source is configured to contain the reagent, and wherein the reagent comprises a chemical, a solvent, or a combination thereof;
- a flow controller positioned between the source and the heat transfer loop, the flow controller configured to regulate a transfer of the reagent into the heat transfer fluid;
- and
- a monitor configured to measure at least one parameter indicative of a thermo-physical property of the heat transfer fluid, wherein the thermo-physical property is an enthalpy of liquid-liquid phase transition, an effective heat capacity, a heat capacity rate, a thermal conductivity, a concentration, or a liquid-liquid phase transition temperature.
A process comprising:
- adding a reagent to a liquid-liquid phase transition heat transfer fluid in a heat transfer loop;
- measuring one or more or a combination of at least one parameter indicative of a thermal property of the heat transfer fluid, wherein the thermal property is enthalpy of liquid-liquid phase transition, or the effective heat capacity, or heat capacity rate, or liquid-liquid phase transition temperature, or any combination thereof;
- wherein the heat transfer fluid comprises a liquid-liquid phase transition fluid and the reagent comprises a chemical, a solvent, or any combination thereof.
