Biodegradable stent

A stent, comprising:

• a tubular scaffold having a first end and a second end, the tubular scaffold including:
• a plurality of filaments extending between the first end and the second end;
• a central longitudinal biodegradable region positioned between a first end region and a second end region, wherein the first end region is positioned closer to the first end than the central longitudinal biodegradable region, and wherein the second end region is positioned closer to the second end than the central longitudinal biodegradable region;
• wherein the central longitudinal biodegradable region is configured to degrade at a first rate of degradation;
• wherein the first end region and the second end region are each configured to degrade at a second rate of degradation;
• and
• wherein the first rate of degradation is faster than the second rate of degradation such that the central longitudinal biodegradable region degrades before the first end region and the second end region, causing the tubular scaffold to degrade outwardly from the central longitudinal biodegradable region toward the first end and the second end.

A stent, comprising:

• a tubular scaffold having a first end and a second end, the tubular scaffold including:
• a first filament extending between the first end and the second end, wherein the first filament comprises:
• a first biodegradable material extending continuously along a length of the first filament and having a first rate of degradation;
• a second biodegradable material having a second rate of degradation slower than the first rate of degradation, wherein the second biodegradable material is encased within the first biodegradable material at a plurality of discontinuous regions spaced along the length of the first filament, and wherein portions of the first filament between adjacent ones of the plurality of discontinuous regions are devoid of the second biodegradable material;
• a plurality of discrete activation sites disposed on the portions of the first filament between adjacent ones of the plurality of discontinuous regions, each discrete activation site including a catalyst material configured to accelerate degradation of the first biodegradable material in contact therewith;
• wherein at least one of the plurality of discrete activation sites includes the catalyst material disposed in a non-linear pattern on the first filament, the non-linear pattern including at least one curved portion.
