Abstract
A System and method enhance clinical effectiveness for monitoring for a change in a level of fluid in tissue by using a device attached to a body portion that wirelessly reports to a remote apparatus or receiver power level for indications of extravasation or infiltration. Adjusting an activation rate of fluid detection, reporting or both extends service life of the device.
Claims13
A method for detecting a fluid level change in a body portion, the method comprising:
- transmitting, by a transmit antenna of a detecting component, a power waveform into the body portion;
- receiving, by a receive antenna of the detecting component, received power from the body portion;
- determining, by a signal processor, a baseline received power level and a subsequent series of one or more received power levels from the received power;
- comparing, by the signal processor, a current received power level of the received power with the baseline received power level to generate an output signal;
- determining, by the signal processor, a reporting rate for reporting the output signal;
- and
- transmitting, by a wireless interface to a remote receiver, at the reporting rate, the output signal.
