Abstract
A biocompatible membrane comprised of alginate and hyaluronate. The membrane may be used to prevent unwanted scarring after surgery. The tissue adherence and the rate of bioresorption of the membrane may be modified through an external stimulus comprising a sequestering agent and a viscosity modifier.
Claims2
A method comprising:
- applying a hydrogel film between first and second tissues of a patient, wherein (a)(i) the hydrogel film includes uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid and crosslinked alginate, (a)(ii) the alginate is crosslinked with a multivalent cation, (a)(iii) the hydrogel film is configured so its bioresorbability increases in response to applying a sequestering agent to the hydrogel film, (a)(iv) the sequestering agent is configured to sequester the multivalent cation, and (a) (v) the hydrogel film includes a mesh in contact with the hydrogel film;
- and
- applying the sequestering agent to the hydrogel film to adhere the hydrogel film to at least one of the first or second tissues;
- wherein the hydrogel film acts as a barrier between the first and second tissues.
1 more element
A system comprising:
- hyaluronic acid and crosslinked alginate both included in a hydrogel;
- and
- a calcium chelator;
- wherein (a) the crosslinked alginate is crosslinked with calcium, (b) the hydrogel is configured to increase in transparency in response to applying the calcium chelator to the hydrogel, and (c) the hydrogel is configured to leach the hyaluronic acid in response to applying the calcium chelator to the hydrogel, and (d) the hydrogel is not templated by a crystal.
