Abstract
Provided herein is technology relating to medical imaging and particularly, but not exclusively, to devices, methods, systems, and kits related to a quantitative diffusion imaging phantom.

A method for validating diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) parameters as quantitative imaging biomarkers, said method comprising:
- a) providing a DKI phantom comprising a high molecular weight alcohol, an ionic surfactant, and water;
- b) determining a Kapp value from diffusion weighted imaging data obtained from magnetic resonance imaging scan of said DKI phantom;
- and
- c) determining quantitative imaging parameters that quantify non Gaussian diffusion and/or multi exponential relaxation of imaging data obtained from magnetic resonance imaging scan of said DKI phantom.
