Abstract
Systems and methods are disclosed for cooling an aircraft galley cart compartment by providing cooling from a chilled air circuit and from an aircraft potable water circuit configured to directly and indirectly cool the aircraft galley cart compartment, with the potable water circuit configured to further increase the chilled air circuit efficiency by further pre-cooling air delivered to the chilled air circuit air chiller.

A system for cooling an aircraft galley cart compartment, the system comprising:
- a cool potable water flow, said cool potable water flow configured to at least
- initiate from an aircraft potable water supply;
- a potable water circuit comprising the cool water flow, said potable water
- circuit in communication with the aircraft potable water supply;
- a chilled air circuit comprising chilled air;
- an air chiller in communication with the chilled air circuit, said air chiller
- comprising an air chiller condenser and an air chiller evaporator;
- an aircraft galley cart compartment in communication with the potable
- water circuit, said aircraft galley cart compartment further in communication with chilled air in the chilled air circuit;
- at least one heat exchanger in communication with the potable water circuit, said at least one heat exchanger further in communication with the chilled air circuit;
- and
- wherein said at least one heat exchanger is positioned in communication with the air chiller in the chilled air circuit, said at least one heat exchanger further positioned upstream of the air chiller, said at least one heat exchanger configured to direct a cooled airflow from the heat exchanger into the air chiller condenser in the air chiller.
A system for cooling an aircraft galley cart compartment, the system comprising:
- a cool potable water flow, said cool potable water flow configured to at least
- initiate from an aircraft potable water supply;
- a potable water circuit comprising the cool water flow, said potable water
- circuit in communication with the aircraft potable water supply;
- a chilled air circuit comprising chilled air;
- an air chiller in communication with the chilled air circuit, said air chiller
- comprising an air chiller condenser and an air chiller evaporator;
- an aircraft galley cart compartment in direct communication with the chilled
- air circuit;
- at least one heat exchanger in communication with the potable water circuit, said at least one heat exchanger further in communication with the chilled air circuit;
- wherein said heat exchanger is positioned in communication with the air chiller in the chilled air circuit and wherein said heat exchanger is further positioned upstream of the air chiller, said heat exchanger configured to direct a cooled airflow from the heat exchanger into the air chiller condenser in the air chiller;
- and
- wherein said potable water circuit is not in direct communication with the aircraft galley cart compartment.
A method for cooling an aircraft galley cart in an aircraft, the method comprising:
- providing a system for cooling an aircraft galley cart compartment, the system comprising:
- a cool potable water flow, said cool potable water flow configured to at least initiate from an aircraft potable water supply;
- a potable water circuit comprising a cool potable water flow, said cool potable water flow maintained at a temperature below an ambient air temperature in aircraft passenger cabin, said potable water circuit in communication with the aircraft potable water supply;
- a chilled air circuit comprising chilled air, said chilled air maintained at a temperature below the ambient air temperature in the aircraft passenger cabin;
- an air chiller in communication with the chilled air circuit, said air chiller comprising an air chiller condenser and an air chiller evaporator;
- an aircraft galley cart compartment in direct communication with the chilled air circuit, said aircraft galley compartment further in direct communication with the potable water circuit;
- at least one heat exchanger in communication with the potable water circuit, said at least one heat exchanger further in communication with the chilled air circuit;
- positioning said at least one heat exchanger upstream of the air chiller;
- augmenting the cooling of the chilled air in the chilled air circuit by directing cooled air from the heat exchanger toward the air chiller condenser in the air chiller;
- and
- directing the chilled air from the chilled air circuit into the aircraft galley cart compartment;
- and
- directing the potable water circuit into the aircraft galley cart compartment.
A method for cooling an aircraft galley cart in an aircraft, the method comprising:
- providing a system for cooling an aircraft galley cart compartment, the system comprising:
- a cool potable water flow, said cool potable water flow configured to at least initiate from an aircraft potable water supply;
- a potable water circuit comprising a cool potable water flow in communication with an aircraft potable water supply, said cool potable water flow maintained at a temperature below an ambient air temperature in aircraft passenger cabin, said potable water circuit in communication with the aircraft potable water supply;
- a chilled air circuit comprising a flow of chilled air, said flow of chilled air maintained at a temperature below the ambient air temperature in the aircraft passenger cabin;
- an air chiller in communication with the chilled air circuit, said air chiller comprising an air chiller condenser and an air chiller evaporator;
- an aircraft galley cart compartment in direct communication with the chilled air circuit;
- at least one heat exchanger in communication with the potable water circuit, said at least one heat exchanger further in communication with the chilled air circuit;
- positioning said heat exchanger upstream of the air chiller;
