Methods and apparatus to manage media streams amongst local networks

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions to cause programmable circuitry to at least:

• obtain a request for a manifest file from a client device within a local network;
• obtain an original version of a manifest file that supports Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) by including two or more audio resolutions and/or two or more video resolutions;
• select one of the audio resolutions and one of the video resolutions by applying one or more policies based on a determination whether to increase, decrease, or maintain an overall streaming quality of media within the local network;
• remove ABR support by editing the manifest file to remove any audio resolution or video resolution except those that were selected;
• and
• provide the edited manifest file to the client device.

A method comprising:

• obtaining a request for a manifest file from a client device within a local network;
• obtaining an original version of a manifest file that supports Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) by including two or more audio resolutions and/or two or more video resolutions;
• selecting one of the audio resolutions and one of the video resolutions by applying one or more policies based on a determination whether to increase, decrease, or maintain an overall streaming quality of media within the local network;
• removing ABR support by editing the manifest file to remove any audio resolution or video resolution except those that were selected;
• and
• providing the edited manifest file to the client device.
