Abstract
A method of rotor angle estimation for a multi-phase permanent magnet rotor motor having a plurality of phase coils. The method comprises applying a voltage to one or more of the phase coils and measuring respective phase coil currents. The method includes obtaining measured or estimated values of resistance and inductance for each phase coil from the measured phase coil currents and estimating rotor angle θ based on the measured or estimated values of resistance and inductance for each phase coil.

A method of operating a multi-phase permanent magnet motor having a plurality of phase coils, the method comprising:
- outputting pulse width modulated (PWM) signals to the plurality of phase coils;
- measuring respective phase coil currents of the plurality of phase coils;
- selecting one of the plurality of phase coils as a selected phase coil;
- adjusting values of multi-phase stationary reference frame voltages for one or more remaining phase coils of the plurality of phase coils that are not the selected phase coil, by one or more predetermined increments, until respective phase coil currents of the one or more remaining phase coils fall within a predetermined range with respect to a phase coil current of the selected phase coil;
- and
- generating adjusted multi-phase stationary reference frame voltages for the plurality of phase coils based on the phase coil current of the selected phase coil and the respective phase coil currents of the one or more remaining phase coils.
A motor controller for a multi-phase permanent magnet motor having a plurality of phase coils, the motor controller being configured to:
- output pulse width modulated (PWM) signals to the plurality of phase coils;
- measure respective phase coil currents of the plurality of phase coils;
- select one of the plurality of phase coils as a selected phase coil;
- adjust values of multi-phase stationary reference frame voltages for one or more remaining phase coils of the plurality of phase coils that are not the selected phase coil, by one or more predetermined increments, until respective phase coil currents of the one or more remaining phase coils fall within a predetermined range with respect to a phase coil current of the selected phase coil;
- and
- generate adjusted multi-phase stationary reference frame voltages for the plurality of phase coils based on the phase coil current of the selected phase coil and the respective phase coil currents of the one or more remaining phase coils.
A motor control system, comprising:
- a multi-phase permanent magnet motor having a plurality of phase coils;
- and
- a motor controller coupled to the plurality of phase coils and configured to:
