Disclosed are a copper substrate for a negative electrode for a rechargeable lithium battery, a negative electrode including the copper substrate, and a rechargeable lithium battery including the negative electrode. The copper substrate has a microstrain according to Lab source Powder X-ray diffraction analysis of about 0.04% to about 0.17%.

A copper substrate for a negative electrode current collector of a rechargeable lithium battery, the copper substrate comprising:
- a microstrain determined by X-ray diffraction analysis in a range of about 0.04% to about 0.17%.
